Having worked with many of the greats during his decade-and-a-half long career, Swizz Beatz definitely has some gems in the stash — from untold stories, to unreleased songs and videos. On Tuesday, he gave us a little taste, sharing two Instagram videos of a studio session with Jay Z and Timbaland.
“Hey sucka n—a, wherever you are,” Hov raps in one, channeling A Tribe Called Quest’s “Sucka N—a” for “Verses,” from last year’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. In the short clip — a bit of a Throwback Wednesday, since it’s from the sessions for that album — it’s apparent that Jay has a clear vision of where he wants the song to go, and he helps to guide it there. There’s also plenty of head-nodding.This isn’t an in-depth look at Mr. Carter’s creative process the way that we got in say, Fade to Black, but it’s still a nice glimpse. Thanks, Swizz.
